How do we share with Isaac, our autistic and non-verbal son, about me, my diagnosis and why he hasn’t seen me as much recently?

Isaac now lives in supported living just down the road. We see him regularly but post-op we had to let him know how I was doing.

Below is the simple, social story his care team generated. Doesn’t need the detail, just that Dad will be out of action for a while. I love that “back to normal” is waking the dog together.

We saw him for his birthday a few weeks ago and yesterday he came over and we managed to get out for a walk with Finley. It’s those moments during recovery that will last in my memory – love that young man!
